Urban Spalted Maple
A couple of years ago my friend Jim told me he had a nice Maple log laying at his place spalting. It was a nice size Soft Maple laying in the brush at the edge of his lot and I was really interested in how well it would spalt just laying there.
As it turned out this Spalted Maple log made some very nice 6/4, 8/4 and 12/4 lumber. After sawing it up it was air dried and was recently the subject of a small scale drying test where the air dried lumber was stacked in the rafters of a garage to finish drying the pieces to 6%-9% moisture content.
